Welsh government to spend £1.5bn on new wheelie bins instead of 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Welsh government has decided to spend £1.5bn on new greeen wheelie bins for areas of Wales instead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Government ministers said that the new wheelie bins would provide more of a lasting legacy than a worldwide sporting event.

A government spokesman told WalesOnCraic:

“Wheelie bins are something that we here in Wales use every day. We therefore thought that we should invest this significant sum of money in them, instead of a week of people running around as fast as they can. We believe that people seeing how far they can jump for a living is a waste of time – people need wheelie bins and we here at the Welsh government are determined to spend £15bn on them.”

A spokesman for the Sporting Council of Wales said:

“Yes, I need a wheelie bin. The Welsh government are absolutely spot on with this one.”
