Shoplifter apprehended by cardboard cutout of policeman in B&M

A shoplifter who was being chased by Asda security officers in Merthyr was stopped in his tracks by what he thought was a policeman standing in the entrance of a B&M store.

The hapless drug-addled thief gave himself up to the smiling picture of the constable, much to the amusement of the security guards and the rest of the shoplifters entering the store.

A spokesman for the Police said:

“We welcome this, and will continue to broaden this type of policing. We are pushing to have life-size photos of officers at football matches, banks, alleyways, dark footpaths, and Hatton garden safe deposit Vaults.”

The thief, who was later released with a kick up the arse, told WalesOnCraic:

“I’d been running for what seemed like an eternity. I’d departed Asda and headed west because I just wanted to find somewhere to eat my Monster Munch. I thought I’d seek refuge in what appeared to be a B&M store. As I entered the premises, I came across what I thought was a member of the constabulary. I immediately surrendered and announced my guilt, of which I am totally repentant.”

The thief managed to eat his Monster Munch on his way back to buy more drugs.
