A high school teacher from Cardiff has successfully resisted asking what time her taxi driver finished his shift.

Mary Wondernorks was on her way home from a night out on the lash when she successfully kept the burning question to herself.

She told WalesOnCraic:

“I’d had a good night out with friends. I’d had a few Proseccos so had to leave my car in town. I was wanting to get back home so I could see my boyfriend so I had to get a taxi. There was one sitting outside the pub so I got in it and asked the driver if he could take me home.

“He said he could so I got in and then it all went sort of quiet. I wasn’t sure whether he wanted to talk or not but then the questions started coming into my head. I opened my mouth to ask whether he’d been busy but he shot me a glance as I was about to say it so I looked out of the window and kept quiet.”

But it was the big question that Mary really struggled with.

“It was on the tip of my tongue the entire time. I desperately wanted to know what time he was finishing his shift and I had to literally clamp my hand over my mouth for the entire journey.”

Mary successfully arrived home but had to ask her boyfriend what time he was finishing his shift to get the question off her chest.

“He thought I’d gone nuts,” she added.
