The Welsh government has launched a £6bn investigation to find out why leaves are mysteriously falling off trees.

The Senedd said it is dedicated to spending the money after one cyclist slightly slipped on a wet leaf earlier this month and nearly fell off his bike.

Spokeswoman Eluned Drycleft for the Senedd said:

“Earlier this month, a cyclist was making his way to work at 7mph when he slightly slipped on a wet leaf. Had he not been able to regain control of his bicycle, he would have fallen off and no doubt died there on the spot.

“As a result, we as a government have decided to act. We have pulled £6bn that was earmarked for our health service to investigate why these leaves are falling off trees. I saw it with my own eyes this morning - I saw a few leaves falling OFF the tree and ONTO the ground. Had I not been looking, these leaves would have struck my on the head and I would have non doubt died there on the spot.”

The government has said it is commited to public safety, and has defended its investigation.

“You’ll only come crying to us when you slip and no doubt die when you slip on a wet leaf,” added Ms Drycleft.

The investigation is expected to report its results in 2028.
