H from Steps to appear on new one pound notes
Ian 'Ian' Watkins will appear on the new Bank of Welshies one pound notes from 2026 onwards

Welsh megastar Ian ‘Ian’ Watkins is set to appear on the new Bank of Wales’s one pound notes from next year.
H, as he is often known, is set to appear on the new pink-tinted notes from 2026 onwards.
A spokesman for the pop singer told WalesOnCraic:
“H is delighted to hear that his gorgeous face will be gracing the new one pound notes. He has always thought that the current notes are a bit dour and it was only a few weeks ago while we were down the pub that we thought they could do with brightening up a little.
“Ian was invited down to the Royal Mint a few weeks back and there were lots of people taking photos of him. We all thought they were fans but now we know why.”
The Bank of Wales are also set to announce the face of Arfon Haines Davies on their new ten pound notes and are considering putting Derek the Weatherman on their new fifty pound notes. As yet, there is no one being considered for the new five pounds notes.
A spokeswoman said:
“We want to capture the true spirit of Wales with our new range of notes and who better than H to appear on our new one pound notes. We’ll arrange some sort of party to celebrate the launch and only special people will be invited and then we’ll all get drunk and I’ll probably get arrested again.”
H rose to fame in the pop band Steps, which was named after a set of steps outside his local Post Office. The abbreviation of H in Ian’s name stands for ‘Herbivore’ because Ian was a diplodocus in a previous life and now only eats leaves and has quite a long neck.
