The north Wales island of Anglesey has slipped its moorings and drifted into the Irish Sea.
Authorities suspect that its mooring ropes were slackened off by drunkards overnight and are hoping to tow the island back to the mainland in the next few days.
Huw Pugh of Anglesey Council told WalesOnCraic:
“We woke up this morning to the most alarming news - that Anglesey was no longer attached to Wales. We did some asking around to try and figure out what had happened and Bob from down the road said he saw some drunkard fiddling about with the mooring ropes last night.
“We looked at the CCTV and apart from a few doggers, we couldn’t see much but we do suspect foul play. The ropes have always been pretty secure so we can’t figure out what else could have happened. Dai the Pie says he’s got a boat and he’ll go out on Tuesday to fetch it back. He said he can’t do it tomorrow because he’s having his feet done.”
The island of Anglesey has been secured to the Welsh mainland since 1957, when fishermen spotted it floating past and claimed it as their own. It now boasts its own RAF base and a few llamas, although not many people can find them.
