Welsh Space Agency to send sheep into orbit

Betty the Wondersheep will be catapulted into space on top of a big shiny rocket

The Welsh Space Agency is set to launch a sheep into space in a new chapter for Welsh space flight.

Betty the Wondersheep will be catapulted into space on top of a big shiny rocket from the Welsh Space Agency’s new launchpad in Brecon.

Lead scientist Gordon BoggleEyes told WalesOnCraic:

“The lads down the pub have come up with a new design for our rockets so we’re going to test it out by sticking a sheep in it.

“Our aim is to blast the rocket up high enough for the wind to carry the sheep into orbit. We’ve given the sheep some Malted Milks and a bottle of Fanta to keep her going and as sheep are quite clever animals, we’ve figured that she can work out how to get home on her own. We’ve made a parachute from one of my girlfriend’s old nighties because I’ve seen how it’s done on the telly.”

The launch will be a new development for the Welsh Space Agency that has already seen big developments this year. In February, they launched a rocket that went higher than the local Kwik Save store and only in May, they all watched the film Apollo 13 right the way through without stopping.

“We like to think we’re pushing the envelope and we’ve also build ourselves a dedicated launchpad in Brecon. It’s just past the doggers’ car park on the way into the town. Hopefully the launch will go ok and if it doesn’t, we’ll just go back to the pub - they do a great Sunday roast there.”
