One-legged man ‘tried shoe on in shoe shop and hopped off’
The one-legged culprit was last seen hopping down High Street in Merthyr wearing his new Croc
A one-legged man has made off with a new shoe after trying it on in a shoe shop and hopping outside and down the road.
Eyewitnesses say the one-legged bandit made off with a single Croc after trying it on in-store.
Garry Twinkletoes, manager of Put A Sock In It shoe shop in Merthyr, told WalesOnCraic:
“We trains our staff to always bring out just the one shoe in case someone tries a pair on and walks out. We didn’t even get that far with this guy. He simply came into the shop, took a shoe off the shelf and put it on his foot.
“He said to a member of staff that he was going to ‘see how it feels’ and he hopped down towards the doors and went straight outside. Glennis, one of my team members, chased after him but he’d already hopped it down the high street by the time she got outside. Those years of Greggs donuts really did catch up with her at that point.
“I phoned the police but they turned up a day after and said that they couldn’t do anything and so I’m now left with a single shoe that I can’t sell. Not unless I find someone else who needs a left-footed Croc.”
The thief was last seen hopping towards the railway station.
“To be honest, once he got on that train, he could have gone anywhere. I suspect he’s probably fled abroad. I can’t imagine a grown man wearing a Croc around these parts in broad daylight. I may need to call Interpol,” added Mr Twinkletoes.
Anyone with any information about the missing Croc is encouraged to tell Jenny down the pub because she’s a nosey cow and likes to be the first to know about anything.
