Bystanders smash car window to rescue hot dogger trapped inside
Concerned shoppers spotted the distressed dogger sitting in the driver’s seat of a silver Vauxhall Corsa in Morrisons car park
Quick-thinking members of the public have been praised after smashing the window of a parked car to rescue a hot dogger who had been left trapped inside during yesterday’s scorching temperatures.
The incident happened in Caerphilly shortly after lunchtime when concerned shoppers spotted the distressed dogger sitting in the driver’s seat of a silver Vauxhall Corsa.
Witnesses said the man appeared extremely hot, was panting heavily and had begun licking condensation from the inside of the windscreen.
“I walked past and saw him in there and knew straight away something wasn’t right,” said local woman Sandra Gubbins. “He was bright red and there was drool everywhere. Someone had left the windows open about half an inch, but it was nowhere near enough.”
After attempts to locate the vehicle’s owner proved unsuccessful, bystanders decided to take matters into their own hands.
Local scaffolder Dean Pritchard used a wheel brace to smash the passenger window before another man reached inside and opened the door.
The exhausted dogger was immediately given a bowl of water and moved into the shade outside Greggs, where witnesses said he quickly recovered.
“He was ever so grateful,” said Sandra. “He drank the whole bowl, shook himself off and then asked if anyone fancied going dogging later.”
Police later confirmed that the vehicle actually belonged to the rescued man, who had accidentally locked himself inside after becoming confused by the central locking system.
A spokesperson reminded the public that hot doggers should never be left inside vehicles during warm weather.
“Temperatures inside cars can rise extremely quickly,” they said. “If you see a dogger in distress, contact the emergency services and avoid approaching from behind.”
The man was later seen driving away with a bin bag taped over the passenger window.
