A recent study by a Welsh university has shown that 87% of brides choose bridesmaids who will help make the bride look better.
Bridesmaids are often chosen on their ability to make the bride look good, according to the survey.
Dr Blodwyn Rimjob, of the University of Bedlinog, told WalesOnCraic:
“Weddings are a highly popular pastime at this time of year and we were interested to see what goes on behind the scenes in the decision making of choosing bridesmaids. I know at my own wedding that my missis deliberately chose less attractive friends to be her bridesmaids so that my missis looked like a stunner, which is a bit of a stretch at the best of times. She needed all the help she could get.
“As an inquisitive person, I wondered if this decision process was commonplace so I commissioned a survey to do some research onto this. As Les Dennis might say, we asked 100 people why they chose the bridesmaids that they did, and 87 of them said it was to make the bride look better.”
The research also found that weddings were the perfect place to get shitfaced and make bad decisions, which could have consequences later on down the line.
“My newly-wedded wife went off and shagged my mate’s dad after the speeches so weddings can also be a time of conflict and regret,” added Dr Rimjob.
