Six Nations 2019 Preview: France

Every day this week, our trainee Sports Reporter Gary TwoSheds will take a look at each of the teams in this year’s Six Nations and assess their chances of success. Today, it’s the turn of France.

France go into this year’s Six Nations ranked just 9th in the world. Which is shit.

This of course will put them under huge pressure to perform, especially in their first game against Wales.

Big game players like Mathieu Bastareaud will be chomping at the bit to go on the rampage but France have been reeling from a spate of high-profile retirements – Philippe Sella hung up his boots in the late nighties and Serge Blanco, a few years previous to that.

France coach Jacques Brunel told the press (in a French accent) last week:

“Well obviously the lads went out there and gave it 100% and we’ll take the positives from this game. Look, we’ll take things one game at a time and obviously all credit to the other side, they came out here today and gave us a hell of a game and obviously, we’ll go into the next game taking the positives with us. Obviously, I told the lads to go out there and enjoy themselves and the lads went out there and enjoyed themselves. Obviously, we go out there and play what’s in front of us and we’ll take it one game at a time and take the positives from this game. And yeah. Obviously.”

Always unpredictable, other teams in this Year’s Six Nations will be hoping that the shit France turns up this year.
