Man saves £1.99 by telling wife that last year’s Christmas pickled onions are new

A Newport man has saved himself £1.99 by telling his wife that the jar of unopened pickled onions from Christmas last year is in fact a new jar.

The man, who doesn’t want to be identified for fear of reprisals, moved the old jar of onions from the back of the cupboard to the front. He then told his wife that he’d been shopping and had bought a new jar.

He told WalesOnCraic:

“Those frigging onions have been sat there for an entire year. I’ll be buggered if I’m going to go out and buy a new jar to sit in my cupboard for another year. I feel bad that I’ve lied but at the end of the day, she’ll be the one benefiting because I’m able to put that £1.99 to good use on some cranberry sauce or something. No one in the house even likes pickled onions. I’ll be putting them with my bowl of nuts that I chuck out untouched in the new year.”

The man bought himself a multipack bag of Monster Munch crisps with the £1.99 he saved.
