The sequel to the hit movie Dune will be filmed at Merthyr Mawr, it has been confirmed.

The second installment of the blockbuster will be filmed on the dunes at Merthyr Mawr, and at nearby Coney Beach Pleasure Park in Porthcawl, the same place where David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia was shot.

A spokeswoman for Merthyr Mawr Town Council welcomed the news, saying:

“This is great news for the local area. We are very much looking forward to harassing the actors when they come to film. I’m very much a Jason Momoa fan so I’m hoping that he makes it through the first film so that he can come see me when they film the second one. I’d like to ask him to sit on my face if that happens.

“We’ve got plenty of facilities here in Merthyr Mawr – we’ve got the sand, some sea and Ewenny Garden Centre is not too far away either.”

Filming is due to start at the start of 2022. The same locations were used in the 1962 movie Lawrence of Arabia, in which Lawrence of Arabia went camel-racing around the Middle East.
