Cardiff bus driver changes his name to ‘Drive’

Posted on

A bus driver in Cardiff has officially changed his name by deed poll to ‘Drive’.

Driver Clive Gunt changed his name so that passengers got his name right as they disembarked his vehicle.

Drive told WalesOnCraic:

“At every bus stop in town, I’d pull over and everyone getting off my bus would say ‘Cheers Drive’. And I told everyone who got off that my name was Clive and and not Drive. It was like talking to a brick wall. I never had anyone call me by my real name so I thought I’d take matters into my own hands. I paid a solicitor £4,500 to change my name and found out after that I could have done it myself for free. Now every time someone gets off my bus, they call me by my real name. I feel more accepted now so it was worth paying for.”

Other drivers are also considering changing their names. One told WalesOnCraic:

“I’ve been called all the names under the sun so it’d be nice to be called something that I actually agree with.”
