Welsh Fans Trace Fijian Bloodlines Ahead of World Cup Opener Against England

Rugby fans across Wales have been scouring their family histories to find evidence of Fijian heritage ahead of Fiji’s World Cup opener against England.

Genealogists have been working flat out and some fans have even taken to changing their names by deed poll.

Fan Brendan Beergut told WalesOnCraic:

“My great-great-grandfather was thinking of going to Fiji once and that’s good enough for me. It’s unlikely that Fiji will win but as long as they dish out some meaty tackles ahead of the game with us, I’m more than happy to call myself Fijian.”

Another fan, who didn’t want to be named because he’s taking six weeks off work on the sick said:

“I can’t bear seeing England score tries. I’m praying to the dear Lord that they don’t get the luck of the bounce or an arse-licking referee. Nothing sticks in the throat like seeing a pork-pie-eating England fan looking happy.”

Fiji take on the mighty Saes on Friday evening.
